This has been in the works for a while, but now it's official: http://openacademic.org
This is an open source project designed to integrate Elgg, Drupal, Moodle, and Mediawiki. All code that fuels the integration will be released back to the community.
The project is a collaborative venture between the Elgg team and FunnyMonkey.
In the next few weeks, we'll be building out the infrastructure to support the project, including a development site to centralize the integration discussions and coding, as well as a svn repository for the codebase.
So, come on over and check out the site! And, if this integration is something that interests you, feel free to get in touch.

Hi Bill!
Saw your post on the Moodle list and thought I check out your blog.
We've been using Mambo and Moodle (not integrated) for over a year. We looked at Drupal but decided against it in favor of Mambo. However, with the description you're providing about integrating Moodle, Elgg, Drupal, and Wikimedia it would seem like it's time to look at it again! The "eportfolio/digital locker" solutions that Elgg provides is one piece we've been very interested in.
If we could get the four of those working hand in hand, single sign-on, etc. etc. that would be very nice set-up! Good Luck with the project!

That's what we're doing --
Hello, John,
RE: "If we could get the four of those working hand in hand, single sign-on, etc. etc. that would be very nice set-up!"
That's where we're starting -- this will be combined with the social/informal learning available within Elgg, Drupal's community-building tools, and the ability to collaborate with learners worldwide within safe, learner-focused environments.
We're pretty excited about the options this creates --

What's happening with this?
This here FunnyMonkey article points to OpenAcademic.org... OpenAcademic says it's going dormant in favor of FunnyMonkey... Meanwhile there's no additional info to be found in either location regarding this integration.
Has this project been abandoned?
Quasi-dormant
We are no longer actively pursuing a generalized integration.
We found that the specific details of integration shift from organization to organization.
Cheers,
Bill
